SAN
DIEGO, Calif. (November 2, 2007) — San Diego homeowners and fire
survivors looking to rebuild in the greater San Diego region
can talk with homeowners and installers about the benefits of
‘going solar’ and get a first-hand look at real-life solar
photovoltaic, solar thermal and solar pool heating systems by
participating in the 8th Annual Solar Homes Tour,
Saturday, November 10th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Co-sponsored
by the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE), SunPower
and Pardee Construction, the self-guided residential tour
encourages San Diegans to
visit their choice of 41 homes County-wide to get the direct
perspectives of homeowners and installers about the costs,
processes and economic and environmental benefits of going solar.
It also gives San Diegans a glimpse of how a variety of solar
systems look in and around homes with different architectural
styles. The
event is one of the largest solar residential tours in the United
States.
The
tour – originally slated for October 27 -- was rescheduled for
November 10 due to the recent wildfires.
Several of those participating in the tour rebuilt their
structures following the Cedar Fires and will be sharing their
experiences with others looking to rebuild – and those who are
interested in making their existing homes more energy efficient.
The
Solar Homes Tour is one of four free events that comprise CCSE’s
Annual Solar Energy Week, designed to: 1) educate the public about
the benefits
of installing solar technology, 2) encourage the adoption of
clean, renewable solar energy, and 3) help San Diego residents and businesses take
advantage of generous rebates and tax incentives for going solar.
“This
tour demonstrates how eco-savvy San Diegans are harnessing the
sun’s power to cut energy costs, realize thousands of dollars in
incentives and create a cleaner, more sustainable energy
future,” stated Irene Stillings, Executive Director of the
California Center for Sustainable Energy. “In the history of San
Diego, there’s never been a better time to go solar,” she
added.
For
more information and to view the list of homes and solar systems
